Go Beyond the Content
Our students need us to go beyond the content. Not that content isn't important - we should be amazing content teachers - but there is a more important component to teaching than making sure students pass tests and demonstrate skills.
Students who are unsuccessful typically have a problem with FEAR. They're smart enough to do just fine, but they fear they will fail and look foolish, they fear the school isn’t on their side and no one will help them, and they fear they will never be able to live a life of meaning. Fear dominates and prevents our students from becoming the amazing people school can help them become.
We want our students to live fearlessly, knowing it’s ok if they mess up and that they have a support team
We can't solve this problem by simply adding more content to their lives. Instead, we must serve as compasses pointing young people to the truths they need to live autonomous and productive lives. We must intentionally GO BEYOND THE CONTENT.
